Different Jesus in Mormonism

There is a big problem in the way that Jesus is portrayed in Mormonism. First of all, He is believed to be the brother of Lucifer, instead of being the creator of all things heaven and earth. 2nd, his Father has a body, not a spirit only. 3rd, His atonement started in Gethsemane and ended on the cross, instead of the cross being that only place. There is a big problem with these teachings for Paul warned us about listening to anyone who preaches a different Jesus. “For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.” (2 Corinthians 11:4) To help you understand why Mormons teach a different Jesus, let’s learn about Him creating Lucifer, including all things. “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.” (Colossians 1:16,17)

Jesus taught that the Father is Spirit. “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:24) We know this since His Spirit is able to dwell within the Son, like the Holy Spirit dwells in us. The Lord taught, “believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.” (John 14:10) When Jesus died for our sins, this is when atonement took place. “For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.” (Romans 5:10,11) The gospel message is that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and then rose from the grave. It does not include Gethsemene. To say it does is wrong and needs to be rejected if you say you believe in Jesus. God wants to save these lost people in Mormonism, but they must be willing to be taught by Him and not man. Amen.

Let us pray:
Lord, just knowing what I know now about Mormonism makes me want to scream and shout from the rooftops about their false teachings. But I know that there is a better way to reach these lost people, and it is by way of the Holy Spirit. I am also only one person, so prepare an army of believers to reach them for Your cause. May hearts will be opened to Your truth. As much as people say how hard it is to reach them, I pray that even their missionaries will leave their mission field to follow You. This has happened to people that I know and I am grateful that they had enough courage to do this, even though there was much ridicule from their own families when they got home. God, if I knew what I know now, I would have done have also done this and left my mission early while I was in the Mormon church. All I know is that You were prepping me for a time and space, in which You could better use me for Your kingdom. Lord, I am grateful that You kept working on my heart, even though it took a while. You are so patient with me. Thank You, Lord, for saving a wretch like me. I love You, Jesus. Amen.

  1. This is such an important topic and one that Mormons do not understand. They don’t ‘get’ that they are worshipping ‘another Jesus.’ It would be good to see this article expanded telling why Jesus can’t be born ofGod and Mrs. God (that would remove his divinity) Also include the Mormon belief that Jesus had to earn his Godhood and why that’s a problem. In addition, the Mormon idea that Jesus paid only for Adam’s sin instead of the truth that he paid for all sin ever committed, tying in his dying statement, of it being “finished.” It’s critical that Mormons understand that they are worshipping a ‘fake’ ‘Jesus and why it’s important that they find the ‘real’ one. They could get a lot wrong. But, Jesus is one they can’t get wrong. So, even though I really do like your short devotions, this could be one that needs to be expanded upon and taught in more depth. There may be others that should be longer. The longer version could be tied to the shorter devotion with a click.

  2. When I was a Mormon I found it very odd, even upsetting, that just right after Christ died for sinners and the sins of the world, the BOM 3rd Nephi has him destroying 17 cities full of men, women, and children for being sinners.
