Endless Genealogies in Mormonism: Part 1

Many people, in the time we are living, want to know where they came from. This is fine on the surface. However, people get into trouble when they begin searching for all their ancestors throughout time. Even their pictures, stories, dates of birth and death, and what religion they were in. These types of people often search the web for good family history centers that they can visit online and in person. And sites like ancestry.com and familysearch.org come to mind. Ancestry.com has said that they are in a “long-term strategic partnership with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ FamilySearch International.” Where the familysearch.org is also sponsored by the same church, or the Mormons. Now, what these places do for the Mormon/LDS Church is also give their temples names of deceased loved ones. This way faithful latter-day saints can do baptisms for the dead for them. Yes, you heard me right. They believe that baptisms save them, so doing baptisms in proxy for dead people is also unto salvation for them in their eyes. They then do endowments for the dead, that they may pass on to heaven, and then marry them if they had a spouse, so they can enter the highest kingdom in heaven, the Celestial. And all of those ordinances have stemmed down to their desire to do endless genealogies, of which the Bible speaks against.

In regards to what I just mentioned of the endless genealogical work in the Mormon church, we will soon find out that all their abundant work is very wrong. It goes against God and through reading the Bible we can come to this understanding. In 1 Timothy, chapter 1, it reads, “Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope; Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord. As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine, neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do. Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned.” (1 Timothy 1:1-5) So we learn that endless genealogies like the family history work in the Mormon church only lead to more questions than answers. It doesn’t edify people in the faith, for what they do is not Biblical. Truly, the Mormon church is now doing ordinances in the temple that are not of God, but of the devil. Nothing they do was administered in the Bible and therefore, I have to question these people in regards to this. To get right with God, in order to gain a clear conscience.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that we will come to know Your desires and not what our family traditions are leading us to believe. One tradition in my family was genealogical work for the dead, of which You have helped me understand that is all false and goes against Your perfect will. Thank You for bringing this to my attention, even though it was very difficult at first to accept that it was wrong. I can remember all the years of visiting my mother and her spending countless hours just translating people’s names, in order to submit them to the Mormon temple. In the beginning, I thought it was a great service to the Mormon church, but You finally opened my eyes. Over time, I saw this work in her life and other family members as having no Biblical foundation and, therefore, evil. Lord, You opened my eyes to the false teachings in the Mormon Church. Thank You, God. Through the Bible, I am able to realize for a truth that when we die, the day of our salvation has ended. We cannot justify that doing temple work, like baptisms for the dead, endowments, and marriage ceremonies can help them after they are dead. Surely, what we have done in this life is written down and sealed in our death. You know who believed in You and also did Your will. All others are unsaved and our prayers will not help them. I love You, Lord. I believe in You, Jesus. Amen.
