Book Of Mormon Contradiction: Helaman 14:12

“For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.” (1 John 5,7,8)

Mormons are being forced to make a decision, of whom both paths are wrong. Will they keep believing in the Godhead doctrine and reject the Book of Mormon, or will they believe in oneness theology and reject Mormonism? This is because the Book of Mormon strongly believes that Jesus is the Father, rather than separate individuals and Gods. This is just one example. “And also that ye might know of the coming of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Father of heaven and of earth, the Creator of all things from the beginning; and that ye might know of the signs of his coming, to the intent that ye might believe on his name.” (Helaman 14:12) What is happening here? It says that Jesus is the Father of heaven and earth. This is not what the Godhead or Trinity teaches. In the Godhead, Jesus is not the Father or the Holy Spirit, but separate individuals and Gods. The Trinity teaching is that God is one being with three distinct persons: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In Christianity, it is also clear that no one has seen the Father and lived. We also believe that the Father is Spirit, being omnipresent, where His Spirit dwells in the Son.

The Book of Mormon doesn’t teach the Godhead, but oneness theology. Jesus is now the Father and not a separate God. Doesn’t this collide with Mormon theology? It sure does. I discussed this with various individuals who follow the LDS faith. They acknowledge the issues with the teachings in the Book of Mormon, particularly regarding the belief that Jesus is the Father and that there is only one God. As Christians looking in, we see the oneness theology as not of God, along with the Godhead teaching. It is because the Bible is intentional in telling us that there is only one true God in the heavens. Jesus said that when people see Him, they are seeing the Father because His Spirit lives in Him. This is similar to someone saying, I see the Holy Spirit in you. Therefore, if Mormons want to keep to their beliefs in the Godhead, they ought to also reject the Book of Mormon as a whole. But if they want to keep to the belief that the book is scripture, then they should reject their church instead. However, this is all wrong. The best scenario is to reject the book and their church, for only the Trinity makes sense. This is the truth of God from the Bible. Amen.
