Jesus Became The Last High Priest: Part 2

The Lord Jesus is our High Priest and did come forth from the lineage of King David. And although Moses never said anything about the priesthood coming forth from the tribe of Judah, it came forth just as it was supposed to happen. Even after the order of Melchisedec did Jesus come forth, whom Jesus was much like. However, he was not under the old law but came forth with the power of God. The priesthood that Jesus holds is much greater, for He is the fulfilling of all the sacrifices that once occurred by way of the high priests of old. His sacrifice on the cross ended it all and now we can look to Him as the last high priest we will ever need. In Hebrews, chapter 7, it speaks about all of this and much more. It is written, “for it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood. And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest, who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life. For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.” (Hebrews 7:14-17) “By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.” (Hebrews 7:22) Amen.

By way of the laws of Moses came forth many high priests, but all this ended with Jesus’s sacrifice for sin on the cross. Therefore, the role of the High Priest went to Him and Him alone. Even every believer is now under His royal priesthood. You can read all this in the remaining verses in this chapter. It is written, “but this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself. For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.” (Hebrews 7:24-28) Amen, The law made available high priests, but with Jesus’s sacrifice is now our high priest forevermore. There are churches that have high priests, but this is only taking away what the Bible says about Jesus.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, You are so good to us. We are all like the sands of the sea and You still love each one of us. You are such a good God, and I pray that more people will come to know You before they take their last breath on earth. For only You have the power to save us from our sins, even the uttermost on this earth. There are many paths we can take in this life, but only one will lead us to You, God. That is why I would rather put my trust in what the Bible says than anything else. Your words are a lamp unto my feet. They lead me into green pastures where I am safe from the enemy. Because You speak through Your words still, You are able to guide me and give me wisdom. Thank You, Lord. I give You thanks, my King, and my High Priest. Through Your sacrifice on the cross, the need for high priests has ended. Their role came to an end because of the cross. Thank You, God, for taking away the sin offerings and for dying on the cross for me. This sacrifice may have happened over two thousand years ago, but still, it remains forever. Even for all generations will Your sacrifice remain intact. Thank You. You saved a wretch like me and I am so grateful. I love You, Lord. I give You praise and honor this day and forever. Amen.
