Mormon Jesus: He Became God

Mormons are not Christians, and this is because of how they downplay Jesus as God. They don’t believe He was always God. How Jesus had to become a God like unto all other Gods before Him. Bruce McConkie wrote, “the Lord Jesus worked out his own salvation.” (Our Relationship With The Lord, pg. 9) Joseph Smith also added the following teachings. “God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens! That is the great secret.” (King Follett Discourse) “I am going to tell you how God came to be God. We have imagined and supposed that God was God from all eternity. I will refute that idea, and take away the veil, so that you may see.” (King Follett Discourse) “You have got to learn how to be gods yourselves, and to be kings and priests to God, the same as all gods have done before you.” (King Follett Discourse) So there you have it. Not only is there a multiplicity of gods in Mormonism, but Jesus is simply one of them. He was a man like us before He was exalted to Godhood, like His Father. Does this seem like the same Jesus of the Bible? Absolutely not.

You’ve just learned what Mormons believe, but to make their teachings confusing read what Joseph Smith once thought about God before changing his mind with the “King Follett Discourse”. He wrote, “by these things we know that there is a God in heaven, who is infinite and eternal, from everlasting to everlasting the same unchangeable God, the framer of heaven and earth, and all things which are in them” (Doctrine And Covenants 20:17) This sure sounds like God has always been God from all eternity, not a God that was once human and exalted to Godhood. This is why Mormonism is confusing. As time goes on, their teachings conflict with one another. Speaking of Jesus, who is God, He spoke these words, “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.” (Revelation 22:13) John also said of Him. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” (John 1:1-3) The Bible doesn’t change, only the teachings of men do. Amen.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I feel bad for the people who are lost in Mormonism. I know how most of them hate me for exposing their false teachings, but if they just knew the knowledge You have given me they would love me instead. God, these people do not realize how far gone they really are. How deep of a hole they are standing in. People have really done a job on them in order to have them think that what they are beleiving in is for You. I used to wonder why You would let this happen, but now I know why. People need to be given right from wrong in this life, in order to choose the right path that leads to heaven. Free agency is given to all people, but only Your true followers choose to follow You. Narrow is the way that leads to life eternal, but broad is the way that leads to destruction. How deep is Your mercy and grace. How infinite is Your love and kindness. You have drawn me out of a path that leads to destruction and placed me on a path where there is light and life abundant. I am so grateful to have found You, Jesus. I was wrapped up in a cult, but that is life is over. I love You, Jesus. I give You everything. Amen.
