Idolatry In The Mormon Faith

The Lord put these thoughts on my heart, the other day, about idolatry. How it is vital for all Mormons (The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints) to understand, in order to be saved. These people are living in idolatry and don’t even realize it. As I was driving down Cole Rd, close to the Boise Idaho Temple, I felt God directing me to look at the top of the temple. My eyes then gazed at the golden angel Moroni. As I was staring, it was like a light bulb came on. That golden angel is an idol or graven image of something in the heaven above. Just as the people made a golden calf, when Moses went up to get the ten commandments, the Mormon church has built a golden angel to sit at the top of each of their temples. God then directed me to think about the baptismal font in the Mormon temple. Just like people in the Old Testament times made molten images for their gods there are twelve oxen under and around each baptismal font. This is blasphemy to the molten sea, which also had twelve calves below it, which was only used for the priests to bathe in and not baptisms, as is spoken in 2 Chronicles 2:4-6.  Here are some examples of idols God said to not have among us. “Take ye therefore.” “Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female, The likeness of any beast that is on the earth.” “Any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above.” “For the Lord thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.” If people do not repent and turn from this religion they will not be saved. We must rid ourselves of all ungodliness to have the Holy Spirit in our lives.

I pray this day, for all Mormons. I was born and raised in the Mormon faith and never saw this grave issue of idolatry until God put this on my heart, this last Friday. I may not have attended that church since 2013 but my heart breaks for all of these wonderful people that are deceived. Attending the Mormon Temple and doing ordinances there in is breaking God’s second commandment, “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image“. They are entering a temple with an idol on its steeple and when doing baptisms for the dead they are entering a baptismal font made in blasphemy to God, full of man-made idolatry. I don’t say these things to be hateful but loving. I was once lost but have been found in Jesus Christ. He was the one who took the veils from my eyes so that I could see. I am learning so much each day as I turn to Him in faith. I just ask any Mormons that are reading this to open their hearts to God. Be no more conformed in beliefs of men but of God. Idolatry is a grave sin and God even says those that practice it hate Him. The Lord said “I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people.” Turn from your sins and come to Christ for salvation. He is the only way to heaven. Thank You Lord for showing me this grave sin in the Mormon Church. Idolatry is grievous in your sight and I hope many people can be pricked to the heart and turn from their evil ways, this day. I love You and hope that many more people wake up to follow You and not men. You are the way to eternal life and salvation.

Exodus 20:4-6 (KJV)
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

Exodus 32:1-10 (KJV)
1 And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.
2 And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me.
3 And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron.
4 And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
5 And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the Lord.
6 And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.
7 And the Lord said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves:
8 They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
9 And the Lord said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:
10 Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation.

Deuteronomy 4:15-19,23,24 (KJV)
15 Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of similitude on the day that the Lord spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire:
16 Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female,
17 The likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flieth in the air,
18 The likeness of any thing that creepeth on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth:
19 And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the Lord thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.
23 Take heed unto yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of the Lord your God, which he made with you, and make you a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, which the Lord thy God hath forbidden thee.
24 For the Lord thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.

  1. And it doesn’t end with the golden angel or oxen… what about Jesus inside, or portraits of god the father (I used lower case on purpose here), worshiping a man of questionable character, and all pagan, masonic, and satanic symbols all over the temples! It makes me sick!

  2. They are very much aware, which is why they don’t wear crucifixes, and there are NO statues within their places of worship– not in chapels or temples. They do not pray to or kneel down before any statue. The angel on top of the temple is a symbol, not a holy relic. Objects are not regarded as sacred, other than a Temple. Other statues such as a Christus statue at a visitor center or a statue representative of their church history in a park are considered as art, not sacred, not prayed to, not knelt in front of, and not used in any way for prayer. They are very clear about where and how art is used… never as part of worship.
Some religions have no paintings of people, not commemorative statues of any kind; some have paintings but only 1 dimensional and never 3D. Old Testament laws are not all carried over to New Testament. Things need to be taken in context and within a historical frame; such as the law against eating pork and shellfish or the ability for a warrior to marry a captive women, or the brother of a man who dies then marries his brother’s wife, or that unruly children are to be taken to the gates of the city so the gatekeepers can kill them for disobedience…. If you want to take all that is banned from the OT and apply it to NT or to the present, then stop eating shellfish and stop claiming the Bible says this, that or the other when it was an OT law that applied to the Israelites living in a specific place surrounded by idol worshipers who sacrificed their children to their false gods of stone. They are not the same thing. So, you don’t like the LDS Church? The church who has no clergy that preaches for hire or divines for money, nor does the church pay for mansions or private jets or vacation homes for local religious leaders (or even the main church leaders)… but this is not the issue I have ever heard anyone take against them because they are so clear about it and if you have gone to an open house for a new temple or attended church service at one of their meetinghouses/churches/chapels you would notice the absence of statutes. A Catholic friend of mine attended an open house for a temple and he couldn’t believe there were no crosses or crucifixes– he thought it was very plain– not understanding that the focus is on Christ and being within the walls of the House of the Lord.

  3. Dear Paul, I am of the Jewish faith and one of my best friends is a Mormon woman named Paula. I did not know a great about your religion, but my impression based on Paula was that you guys were truly kind, generous and caring, and loved helping people in need. When I saw the room filled with the calves/cows I too was shocked. What I realize is that they have somehow missed the point – G-D punished the Jews for constructing a single calve – to me it is clear not to build a room with 10 or more. However, I think what they were trying to do is – based on what I understand, in a moment of great anger and rage Moses or g-d, cracked open the earth (at least that is what the movie shows LOL) and consumed all the sinners who had turned to idolatry – and I think the Mormon church has placed a pool for baptism in the room, in a sense to save people from the fires. Does this make sense? But I have also learned that despite what we think that the bible and it’s stories aren’t totally accurate. If Moses returned to his people after spending 40 days/nights in the mountain talking to G-d and carving the stones, this means that he had not yet handed the people the commandments. I wonder why then he wouldn’t forgive their transgressions and properly explain the commandments to them especially the one about idolatry, and then warn them never to repeat their mistake. Great article! Regards, Gary Samuel Besner
