“Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” (Colossians 2:8,9)
In Mormonism, they believe that a portion of God’s truths are in various religions. How the one true God gave them a portion of His light. This includes people in Christianity. We only have a portion of God’s light. For example, Islam, Confucianism, Socrates, and Plato all teach what is morally correct, but are missing out on the entire truth. Think of it like a pie, different religions of this world are a piece of the pie, where in Mormonism they are that pie. From their own official website it says, “we believe that “the great religious leaders of the world such as Mohammed, Confucius, and the Reformers, as well as philosophers including Socrates, Plato, and others, received a portion of God’s light. Moral truths were given to them by God to enlighten whole nations and to bring a higher level of understanding to individuals.” (The Restoration of All Things) What do you think of this quote? Is this something that a prophet of God would say? What about a Holy Spirit-filled person? Absolutely not. God’s light is in His true believers. The same goes with His truth.
So when Muslims teach that Jesus is a prophet, not the Son of God or God, the true God of Israel was still somehow leading Muhammad? What about Confucianism? They teach people to respect the gods. So how is this not idolatry and against His form of thought? How about Socrates? He said, and I’ll quote, “virtue by wisdom binds gods no less than men”. Again, we hear about the teachings of many gods, which we know God is against. How about Plato? He taught, “in order for man to succeed in life, God provided him with two means, education and physical activity.” So instead of a life serving other people and God, they are to be educated and physically fit? These examples of religions having a portion of God’s truth and light are ridiculous. So what do you think of these claims? These people are lost and don’t understand how God works. The spirit of God has always been with Israel and His church not false religions. I love people of all religions but know also that only Jesus can save them. Their false beliefs won’t lead them to heaven. Only Jesus can do this. Amen.
Unless Jesus, as he is described in the Bible, is at the very center of that religion it is false. Unless the members of that religion are trusting only in the Jesus of the Bible for forgiveness of sin and for eternal life, based on faith alone, they are lost.
