Surprise, surprise, we have another form of plagiarism in the Book of Mormon. This list is ever growing and we will look at one instance in 2 Nephi 25:13 when compared to Malachi 4:2. What I have done is search for the phrase “with healing in his wings” in the Bible and this reference only comes from Malachi 4:2 and nowhere else. This is what the plagiarized verses read like in the Book of Mormon. “Behold, they will crucify him; and after he is laid in a sepulchre for the space of three days he shall rise from the dead, with healing in his wings; and all those who shall believe on his name shall be saved in the kingdom of God. Wherefore, my soul delighteth to prophesy concerning him, for I have seen his day, and my heart doth magnify his holy name.” (2 Nephi 25:13) This is in comparison to the Bible here. “But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.” (Malachi 4:2) Comparing these verses many Mormons will say that it was a stretch to see any plagiarism here. They don’t realize that this comparison is just the beginning of the issues I’ve found.
But there is more. Notice that before “with healing in his wings” is mentioned, Malachi makes mention of the Son of righteousness rising. Joseph Smith saw this and thought it would be a perfect example of this referencing Jesus’s resurrection. This is why Joseph Smith penned in the Book of Mormon the following also, “behold, they will crucify him; and after he is laid in a sepulchre for the space of three days he shall rise from the dead.” And again, we see Joseph Smith taking the verse in Malachi and interpreting it to be Jesus rising from the dead. However, this is not the proper interpretation. This is. Those who fear the Lord, our God, shall He come unto us and bring healing to our souls. We are then able to grow up as His sheep, having a shepherd. Therefore, they are kept safe from the evils of this world. Jesus’s resurrection is important, but this is not what Malachi, chapter 2 is talking about. And here we see a proclaimed prophet of God misinterpreting the Bible, changing verses in the Bible according to his desires, and also plagiarizing parts of the Bible and making it his own. This is so evil and should be exposed. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray for those in the Mormon faith. My heart is aching because of people who are stuck in a cult and aren’t aware of it. I’ve had family members tell me that I am no longer welcome in their homes because faith is different than the Mormon faith. This has caused a rift in my own family, Lord. It is hard to see my wife side with such people and say that my witnessing to Mormons is wrong. All I know is what You have shared with me these many years. For most of my life I was lost. I was incapable of overcoming sin on my own. My beliefs were of the devil, and it is hard to believe that I was willing to die for it. Thankfully, You came down and rescued me. You saw that my heart was open in the summer of 2012, and that was when You stepped in to save me. Did I know that I needed to be saved? Absolutely not. I thought my faith in the Mormon religion was all I needed, and I would be with my family for all eternity in heaven. Oh, how I was wrong. You have taught me, God, that only a few shall be saved. I do pray for family members to go to heaven, but I know that it is not promised. I love You, Jesus. I give You my life to serve You. Amen.
It’s a dangerous thing to tamper with God’s Word.
