Jesus Suffered For Our Sins On The Cross

The day that Jesus went forth, in order to pay the penalty for our sins on the cross, He knew that He would go through much pain for the sake of all mankind. It was after the people called for Him to be crucified is when they scourged him. “And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head, and began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews! And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him. And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.” (Mark 15:17-20) Can you imagine going through such torture and mockery, while then realizing that it would only get worse? He was a lamb going to the slaughter, but did so willingly because of His great love for us all. Simon was called to help him bear His cross, which was wonderful, since Jesus must have lost a lot of His strength, having been beaten so much already. And praise God that Simon did step up to the plate, in order to help our Lord carry that cross. Now, as they reached Golgotha, or the place of the skull, they laid him down, in order to crucify Him. “It was the third hour, and they crucified him. And the superscription of his accusation was written over, The King Of The Jews. And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left. And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.” (Mark 15:25-28) This is where Jesus began to suffer for our transgressions.

For six hours did Jesus suffer on the cross. He felt all our sins but bore them freely that we may be forgiven. You see, He began to suffer at the third hour and it was now the ninth hour. “And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calleth Elias. And one ran and filled a spunge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to take him down. And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost. And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom. And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.” (Mark 15:34-39) It was at this time that Jesus said that His Father had forsaken Him. Meaning, that God the Father could not be with His Son in this difficult moment, which must have been terrible for Jesus to bear on His own. And to help you understand what Jesus did on the cross, Paul said… “And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross.” (Colossians 2:13,14) Jesus was crucified that we might be saved. Every person who believes in Him can be forgiven and find mercy from the Lord.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that people will understand the importance of the cross. That they will come to a realization of all that You did for us, Jesus, and begin to praise Your holy Name. How often do people accept You into their lives, but it often only lasts a day. If they just comprehend all that You did for us while on the cross, they would give their whole life to follow You. People would fall down upon their knees in reverence, for You were pained for our transgressions. And the very fact that You did this for me, means everything. I now know that I have a God that truly loves me, which is You, Lord. You have not forsaken us, but gave us all a pathway to follow. My salvation is secure, for You are in my life now. I was once dead, but You gave me a new life. I was deaf, but I can hear from You now. I could not see the importance of the cross, but now I can see and it is the power of God in me. It is my prayer that more people will come unto You, Jesus, for salvation. That people will no longer stand idly by while others are saved but run to You. It is when we call upon Your Name is when mercy is available. I am so grateful for Your grace, God. How could You forgive a wretch like me? I will never understand why You still saw potential in me. I was so far gone into a life of sin, but You came and rescued me. Thank You, Lord. I owe everything that I am to You. You are the reason why I live and breathe in this life. Without You I am nothing. So come into my life every hour. Come and stay awhile and sup with me and my family. We love You and honor You. I give You great glory and praise. Amen.
