Mormons claim that the true church will have Jesus’s name in it. This is a common belief with every member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Notice in the name of their so-called church, Jesus’s name is in it. And so they claim that because of this, it proves it is Christ’s church. The same things is said by LDS missionaries who say they are of God because Jesus is in their name tag. But the truth is, anybody could slap Jesus’s name on things, but it doesn’t mean God is for them in any fashion of the word. Mormons get this belief that Jesus’s name has to be in a Church’s name because of the following verses. Jesus Is supposedly speaking when He said, “and Jesus again showed himself unto them, for they were praying unto the Father in his name; and Jesus came and stood in the midst of them, and said unto them: What will ye that I shall give unto you?” (3 Nephi 27:2) “And how be it my church save it be called in my name? For if a church be called in Moses’ name then it be Moses’ church; or if it be called in the name of a man then it be the church of a man; but if it be called in my name then it is my church, if it so be that they are built upon my gospel.” (3 Nephi 27:8) Therefore, they use this verse to prove that Jesus’s name has to be in the church’s name, or else it is false and not of God.
So the question is, does the Bible speak of Jesus’s name being required in His churches name? Absolutely not. Read the following verses for yourself. This first church being called, “Church of God“. It is written, “take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.” (Acts 20:28) The second church being called, “Church Of The Living God“. It is written, “but if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.” (1 Timothy 3:15) And the third church being called, “Church Of The Firstborn“. It is written, “to the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect.” (Hebrews 12:23) The book of Revelation does speak of these different churches in different cities like Ephesus and more. So if anybody says that Jesus’s name has to be in the church’s name, what will you tell them? We can use the word of God to show that this is not true. Therefore, what the book of Mormon teaches about God’s church is a major contradiction with the Bible. They are in conflict with one another. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that people of different cults will wake up to their false beliefs. These false church leaders are wolves in sheep’s clothing and need to repent for leading people astray. It is very sad to see people be duped by their false teachings. But I know how convincing the spirit o the devil really is. Truly, Satan is the father of all lies. He has the power to deceive the very elect from knowing You and Your trust gospel message and teachings. Lord, I love Your truth, not the truth that I think is true, but what You have revealed to me through the Bible and through prayer. One thing I know is that not every person has all the right answers, for this reason, we must check our beliefs with Your Words, then can You lead us out of every false way and into the knowledge of the truth. Thank You for taking me out of the darkness of Mormonism and into Your light. I was lost in my own pride, willful sins, and unbelief until You found me and had compassion for my soul. Truly, I did not know that You were such a merciful God until Your peace came over me and I was forgiven. It is my prayer that more people experience Your matchless presence in their lives also. I love You, Jesus. I give You glory. Amen.
