Chapter 28 (BOMC)

As Christians, we worship Jesus.  But what about the Mormon people, do they do the same? If not, then why? They are called to worship Jesus in the Book of Mormon, although their church leaders would disagree. It is written, “and now behold, I say unto you that the right way is to believe in Christ, and deny him not; and Christ is the Holy One of Israel; wherefore ye must bow down before him, and worship him with all your might, mind, and strength, and your whole soul; and if ye do this ye shall in nowise be cast out.” (2 Nephi 25:29) Other places in the Book of Mormon show people worshiping Jesus. However, the current Mormon teachings say that God the Father, and Him alone should be worshiped, not the Son. Bruce R Mcconkie, one of the 12 Apostles, said this. "We worship the Father and him only and no one else. We do not worship the Son, and we do not worship the Holy Ghost”. (Our Relationship with the Lord) The lds.org website agrees with this statement.  “God the Father is the Supreme Being in whom we believe and whom we worship.” (God The Father)

As you can see by the statements from the Mormon church, they don't agree with worshiping Jesus. Therefore, the Mormon prophets and their book cannot be trusted. This leads us to believe the Mormons are not led by God. They cannot have it both ways. To be divided in doctrine is wrong and not of God. Therefore, the Mormon prophets are false, and their church is false also. On that note, let us clear up the confusion. Turn with me to the true Word of God, the Bible, that talks about worshiping Jesus. In Matthew, chapter 28, we learn how Jesus accepts worship. It reads, “and they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word. And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.” (Matthew 28:8,9) As this happened, Jesus did not say, do not do this, but accepted it.  This happened all throughout His ministry. When people bowed down before Jesus, He accepted the worship. People saw Jesus as we see Him now. He is our Lord, our God, and King. The promised Messiah.

In the same chapter of Matthew, it says the following.  “Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.” (Matthew 28:16,17) As you can see here, as people saw the resurrected Lord, they could not help but worship Him. They fell at His feet in worship and He accepted it.  Not once did He tell people to stop. However, when John attempted to worship an angel, the angel said stop.  It is written, “see thou do it not: for I am thy fellow servant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.” (Revelation 22:9) Since Jesus and the Father are both considered God, then to worship them both is fine. Let us read in Jesus’s own words how he is the God of Abraham, after being asked if he had seen Him. Jesus said, “Before Abraham was, I am.” (John 8:58) Therefore, as Christians, we stick with what the Bible teaches about worshiping Jesus. Mormons, however, cannot agree, for their doctrines of worshiping the Father only are contradictory to what the Book of Mormon and Bible say.

I have noticed that Mormons read their Book of Mormon, but don’t do what it says. I am not saying that this book is of God, but what it is crazy that they hold to this book being the most correct book on earth.  In so doing, they don’t believe in a lot of what it says. Namely, the Trinity that is found in 2 Nephi 31:21 and Mormon 7:7, and also to worship Jesus in 2 Nephi 25:29. Let’s read this verse again.  It is written, “and now behold, I say unto you that the right way is to believe in Christ, and deny him not; and Christ is the Holy One of Israel; wherefore ye must bow down before him, and worship him with all your might, mind, and strength, and your whole soul; and if ye do this ye shall in nowise be cast out.” (2 Nephi 25:29) This verse contradicts what Bruce R. McConkie said. It is written, “we do not worship the Son, and we do not worship the Holy Ghost. I know perfectly well what the scriptures say about worshipping Christ and Jehovah, but they are speaking in an entirely different sense—the sense of standing in awe and being reverentially grateful to him who has redeemed us. Worship in the true and saving sense is reserved for God the first, the Creator.” (Our Relationship with the Lord, 1982)

The truth is, Jesus was worshiped by different people during His ministry on earth. He also never told them to stop. It is written, “and as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him. Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.” (Matthew 28:9,10) “Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” (Matthew 28:16-18) Lastly, every person will bow before Jesus, if not in this life. It is written, “that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:10,11) True Christians worship Jesus and the Father. This means praying to the Father or the Son. It is sad to see Mormons deny worshiping Jesus.  This contradicts their own teachings in the Book of Mormon. Amen.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, help us to know Your will and follow after it also. You are God, Jesus, and many people will say this but do nothing to show their worship. It is sad to hear from people that they only worship the Father and not You. Do they not know that You are worthy of our praise also, Jesus? How that every knee will bow down before You one way or another in this life or the next. As for me, I’ve already made my decision to follow You completely and to make You Lord of my life. People can persecute me, but this will not deter me from following You, Lord. I bestow upon You, Jesus, glory and praise. I worship You now and forever. You are the Son of Man, who came into this world, in order to save us from our sins. Thank You, God. Because of the cross, your blood has covered me. For this reason, I tell everyone I can about You and Your payment for sins on the cross. Many people get this wrong while adding Gethsemane to the atonement.  In these false beliefs, every person will know in death and judgment that You died for our sins. Forgive me, Lord. Wash me clean from all my iniquities. I love You, Jesus. Amen.
