Those who have read the Book of Revelation would know about the warning in the last chapter of this important book. That we are not to add to or take away from this book of prophesy. This is important to remember when comparing the King James Bible (KJV) with the Joseph Smith Translation (JST). I mention these two translations since the JST is an off shoot of the KJV and not a translation based on any ancient Bible manuscript. In the Mormon church, the JST is in almost every Bible as footnotes at the bottom. So it is still important to them as a whole. And for today we will look at Revelation 5:6 to see if we have an issue with the JST Translation. The KJV and JST versions will be shown below also later on. As for this verse, here are the big problems when comparing with the JST. #1, “seven horns” is changed to “twelve horns”. #2, “seven eyes” is changed to “twelve eyes”. #3, “seven Spirits” is changed to “twelve servants“. But there is more… Each time the word “seven” is mentioned, it is changed to “twelve“. When the word “Spirits” is mentioned, it is changed to “servants“. This has to be the most changed verse in all of the Book of Revelation, which makes what Joseph Smith did all that more grievous in the sight of God. See below for more details…
Revelation 5:6 (KJV)
6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
Revelation 5:6 (Joseph Smith Translation)
6 And I beheld, and lo in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts and in the midst of the elders stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having twelve horns and twelve eyes, which are the twelve servants of God sent forth into all the earth.
The number one problem with people adding to the Book of Revelation is the following… #1, “God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book.” So the number of plagues mentioned for the wicked in this prophesy will also be directed towards this person who changes the Book of Revelation. As for people who remove the wording from the Book of Revelation, this is also their consequence. God will “take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” What does this mean? It means that this wicked person will be sent off to the lake of fire after judgment is set in. This person will find out that his or her name is not in the Lamb’s book of life. This means that they will never stand foot in the New Jerusalem, which is on the New Earth. Nor will they inherit any of the blessings spoken of in this prophecy. Therefore, this person is condemned to die a second death in the lake of fire. This is the final location for Joseph Smith, based on what he has done to the Book of Revelation. He is currently in hell and nobody should be praising this dead man, but hating that he led millions of people astray. See below for details…
“For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” (Revelation 22:18-19)
“And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:12-15)
There’s an important difference between the meaning of the numeral 7, which can refer to completeness in the Bible and the numeral 12, which can refer to the Twelve Tribes of Israel. Such a change distorts the entire meaning of the verse.
